Seattle Book Club is thrilled to announce its first-ever reading retreat! Join us in the Cascade mountains during peak foliage season for cozy reading and relaxing activities with a book-loving community. We'll gather in a cozy but spacious home with multiple fireplaces, large windows to showcase the beautiful trees and nature, and a hot tub to relax everything away in. Seattle Book Club owner Sam will host the retreat, leading multiple book discussions and gentle yoga classes. Co-host Maggie will guide the relaxation deeper with sound baths, forest bathing, and crafting. Calling all book lovers, nature lovers, and vacation lovers–you won't want to miss this weekend!

Two 60-minute gentle, all-levels yoga classes will be offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Think deep breathing, gentle stretching, and a long savasana with hands-on assists in a small group setting. This yoga is designed to clear your mind and relax your body: the perfect way to start a retreat day. Appropriate for someone who hasn't done yoga in years or who practices daily.
This is a reading retreat, so our main focus is reading! The love of reading will provide the common thread among guests, and there will be ample time to cozy up with a book and just READ. Every provided activity is optional; if you'd prefer to be with your book for most of the retreat, you will have the option to do that. Read next to the fireplace, on the couch, in your room, in the hot tub... the reading opportunities will be nearly endless.
Every retreat member will receive a copy of a book about one month before the retreat (included in your ticket). This book will be determined prior to the retreat, voted on by members who have signed up by August 15. Sam will lead a book club style discussion about this book.
We will also chat at the end of each designated reading time to hear what everyone else is reading and if they recommend it.
Sound bowls and other instruments will be used to complement the yoga classes and quiet reading times. Through vibration, sound baths can help the mind focus and the body relax.
Forest bathing is a Japanese practice relaxation; it is being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you while breathing deeply. It can help lower stress and improve mood–perfect for practicing in the natural beauty of the Cascades.
**weather permitting
We'll take a group trip to Plain Cellars, a boutique winery and tasting room, located only a three-minute drive from our lodging. The winery offers wine tasting, food and music. (This is optional)
